TaiChung Official Visit

Our first out of Taipei City~ Tai Chung!! So excited =)

I was trying to be part of the 'community'. Since everyone's reading the newspaper, I'm reading it too!

It was a 2 hour journey.

Upon reaching there's already 2 MPV waiting for us. They will be bringing us to the Tai Chung Animal Shelter. One of the best Animal Shelter in Taiwan!

A brief description of the shelter I copy/paste form one of those official sites. "It is established under the Animal Protection Act, Taichung Animal Shelter takes in animals given up by citizens and provides stray animals with a suitable space. With an area of 3,300 pings, Taichung Animal Shelter is equipped with exhibition areas of tamed animals, rare fowls, and aquatic animals, which serve as a space for outdoor instruction or the citizens’ recreation spot. Correct concepts of animal protection and animal raising are given here and animal adoption is also encouraged to solve stray animal problems in Taichung City."
Map where the shelter is located for those who wants to visit!
Open Time: 10:00~12:00 ; 13:30~16:00, Off on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
For Dog Adoption: 10:00~12:00; 13:30~16:00 every day except
     Sunday.

A panorama view from within the shelter. It's a amazing place located up hill where u can have a bird eye view of Tiachung City looking down from the shelter Administrative building.

'Wa Wa' came along too. Aunty Liu can't bear to leave her behind. Have I ever mention? Wa Wa is a handicap chiwawa. She was abandon 3 years ago in front of Aunty Liu's house just few months old. Although abandon, she can consider itself very lucky to met animal lover like Aunty Liu because she took care of her ever since until now.

After we had lunch they told us to have a rest inside the conference room because the air condition is turned on inside. Everything was set up nicely when we entered.

But they did not really define the definition of rest. So most of us rested in our own ways~

We were given the introduction of Tai Chung Animal Shelter by one of the Veterinarian. They gave us a overview description of the shelter and also the health inspection office. Their vision is to provide the services with professionalism and high quality. They target towards the goals of humanities, humanitarian and no euthanasia

Taichung City Animal Shelter are divided into the South: Nantun Park and North: Hauli Park

The Red area indicate Taichung City
Of course the presentation also include a numbers of statistic regarding the capacity of the shelter, the number of strays throughout the years even the number of cages for dogs, puppy cats so on. But I'm not going to be talking about that because I can see you yawing now..hahaha

But I would very much like to share with you some of their policies towards the animals.

  • To accept every single animal brought in
  • High tech lost and found solution ~ via internet and scanning microchip
  • Paying attention to disease prevention and control
  • Encourage adoption free of charge to solve the problem of stray animals
  • Neuter: sterilization for all adopt dog and cat including puppies and kitties
  • Humane education: proper concept of animal protection and breeding.
They also describe their animal intake procedures from screening til adopted. But for those unfortunates ones will have to be performed euthanasia *after 12 days without adoption*. They emphasis that they try their very best to help the animals in terms of getting them adopted and to reduce the numbers of euthanasia protocols as possible.

Our group photos with the director Dr Jian-Chung Yu and presenter *next to Aunty Liu*

After the presentation, they gave us an interesting tour around the shelter. There's all kinds of animals that we did not expect to come across, because usually animal shelter just keep dogs and cats. We saw the rabbits house.

Goats house. *sounds like ghost house* =P

Ostriches!

Deers~

Even peacocks!!

and of course the dogs and puppies.

And kitties~

All these animals are well taken care of as their facilities are these facilities are funded by the government.

One of the major differences I find while in Taichung compared to Taipei, that is the transportation! Very much inconvenient as Taichung do not have MRT and you need to wait for the bus to arrived for almost half an hour!

After a day of official visits we head down to the famous Fengjia Night Market! It was pretty far *20 minutes bus ride* from our hotel but since we already came so far of course we have to at least step foot on that alley. We were so determine! We were so enthusiasm with the adventure! We sat the wrong direction bus and took us more than one hour to reach the destination =_='''

But that's okay, as long as we persevere we will achieve our goal in stepping our soak in rain FOOT on the biggest Night Market in Taichung!!

Our dinner at one of their typical restaurant~

They serve great meal with very reasonable price! =)

It was another raining day~ Pretty inconvenient but still...it's a wonderful experience =)
